International schools in Bangkok

What this entry covers

Bangkok has one of the largest groups of international schools in Asia. British, American and IB schools are all well represented, and the city also has smaller schools teaching other national curricula. For a first look at the best-known names, a 2026 comparison of Bangkok international schools with published fees sets seven schools side by side, with the curriculum, campus location and fee schedule of each. The schools in it are not ranked.

Where the schools are

The larger schools are spread across the whole metropolitan area rather than gathered in one district. NIST is on Sukhumvit Soi 15 in the centre, Bangkok Patana is in Bang Na, Harrow is in Don Mueang in the north, International School Bangkok is in Nichada Thani in Nonthaburi, and the American School of Bangkok Green Valley is outside the city in Samut Prakan. Traffic is heavy at school times, so most families choose a school and a home together.

School year

Most international schools in Bangkok follow a northern-hemisphere calendar from August to June. Thai government schools start their year in May. International schools in Thailand are licensed by the Office of the Private Education Commission, part of the Ministry of Education.

Editor's notes

  • Compare the whole fee schedule. One-off admission or registration fees and deposits are common, and lunch, buses and boarding are often billed separately.
  • Several large schools run more than one campus or are outside the city boundary. Check which campus a place is at before you sign a lease.
  • Ask how much support a child new to English will get, and whether it costs extra.
